Well, since you asked. This is one of the craziest elections in the history of our nation. Never before has there been so much diversity among, in my opinion, so many unqualified candidates. It’s like
sometimes when you’re watching American Idol. You know, it’s the top 24 and someone goes out there and sings like Barney and you’re asking “this is the best y’all could find in all of those people?”
I realize we are talking about something much more serious here, but really. Where, in all of our educated elitest American culture are the leaders? And I don’t mean people who talk a good game. Or have some kind of history that supposedly qualifies them. Or were kinda chosen by default. I’m not naive enough to think that the men of old were all completely stalwarts of character, integrity, and purely motivated leadership.
I do, however, think that there has been a steady decline in the overall character of our system and it’s leaders. And, as a result of declining leadership, the character of our country is slouching as well. So much so that somehow we are swayed in our voting by the support of the “culture clowns”. By that I mean the rock stars, actors, and personalities who pledge their support for a particular candidate. The sick thing is that we listen and care about what these people think, and somehow, in the election booth, let the opinions of these uninformed, disconnected from normal American reality, bought out, jabbering political prostitutes effect decisions that will alter the reality our children will be forced to endure.
What does Kanye know about what it takes to run a country? I haven’t seen his senate voting record but I’m pretty sure it’s nonexistent. This is not a plug for or against a particular candidate. But where we gain our political perspectives says a lot about where we’ve turned as a nation. We give preference to the opinions of the clowns that entertain over the proven, trustworthy principals of those who govern.
I guess the real issue at hand is that there are so few proven or trustworthy leaders in this generation. Maybe if there were we wouldn’t let the mere words of people with remedial political ideologies effect our vote. I will vote because it is my civic duty. But, all the while I will pray that God raises up better leaders in the next generation and a population who votes on character and leadership, not popularity.

Thanks Hunter, I agree. All we can do here is pray and dig deep.Look at senate voting records and closely. What are their true beliefs? When these popular personalities decide to get on the wagon to pursue the way I vote,I see RED! What does Opra know about running a country? I’m not sure there is anyone trustworthy to vote for.I guess what I’m saying is,be sure about who your voting for.We need to feel responsible for putting honest leaders in charge of this country.Making the best decision we possibly can for the greatness of our country and our children’s future. You need to scratch beneath the surface to make sure it’s the real deal.Don’t just vote for someone because they look a certain way or because Mellencamp “said “or Opry “did”. People are not always who they pretend to be. thank you,Becky
Thank you for so eloquently stating what so many of us are feeling. Voting can be so intimidating because it takes so much work to find out the true agenda of each candidate. You can’t just vote party lines anymore, as the line between liberals and conservatives gets cloudier every day. And, of course, the candidates do their best to hide their true beliefs because so few of them actually have a proven history of integrity. I will join in your prayers for a new kind of leader to emerge in our nation–a political revolution, of sorts. One led by followers of Christ!
well Id have to say that if we looked back into the history of our leaders and even other countries you know you wont like what you see.
I know the point of your post is different than what im talking about, but the fact that we can all see and hear our candidates on a daily basis is huge. 70yrs ago not many people even got a chance to see or actually hear the candidates, let alone get to find out all the things we know.
i will agree it does seem like the quality is dropping, but who are we comparing them too?
how true when you say our leader’s morals are not very good anymore, i mean we have a arab and a woman for 2 candidates, what choices! I would go for Bush for 4 more years!!!lol. anyways i would say huckabee cause i don’t know if yall have ever heard him speak and ,i’m not much into politics, but he is a dynamic christian and i would go for mccain for vice.i know gary bracktt’s endorsing mccain but i would like a christian leader like bush. are yall allowed to say who u voted for? and if so,who?
I totally agree. I am very disappointed in all the current choices not just for president, but all the way down to our local offices as well. The individual I vote for is supposed to be my voice in government. But candidates with similar viewpoints to mine are very few and far between. I am a poli sci major and committed voter, but it is very discouraging to think that I am basically voting for the least worst candidate.
We have millions of Americans in this country and it is sad to think that this appears to be the best we can come up with. However, when you see what the candidates and their families go through and the way their entire lives are put under the microscope, you almost can’t blame the smart people from staying out of the game.
I just keep praying for our country and our leaders and wisdom for the voters. God is in control and that is all I can do.
Wow. That was some hardline truth there…well written.
I love voting as it is your right to vote and that you should indeed vote on people of integrity and character as well as honesty. God bless you all!
