“God Got The Storm On”

So this morning my wife and I go into our son’s room to get him up. This is always a great time of our day. The three of us layed together in my son’s twin bed and talked about life. We asked him how his night went and he had the most interesting response. I am NOT making any of this up. Apparently this was how his night went:

“I went and got my crocs on and my black guitar shirt and my pants. Then I went downstairs and went out to the woods to throw rocks and see God get the storm on. Then God came back to my room and helped my daddy get my shirts last night.”

We both found all of this to be remarkable. Somehow he was able to dress himself, leave the house, go to the woods and throw rocks, and have a powerful (and practical) encounter with God without waking us up!!

Being a parent brings more entertainment than every lifestage combined. I love hearing stories about what kids say and do. Y’all got any good ones? Let us know.

Those are the kinds of stories you need to write down to show him later!

The other night, my husband gave our 2-year-old a short piece of rope. Shortly after that, our son ran into the living room and announced to me that he was trying to catch a cloud. “Dada gave me this rope! I’m gonna catch a cloud!”

Even as I was typing this, he ran in here, clothed only in a diaper, and informed me that he’s “strong like a big boy!” Guess its all that ribeye steak he had for dinner! :-)

It’s stories like these that make you wish they could stay little for ever!Making memories, this is what life is all about! When my daughter was about 3 she asked me,Now Get This, Mom did you know that little boys are differant than little girls?! !I was brushing my teeth at the time, and I nearly choked on my tooth brush! I just stayed calm and replyed, umm no sweetie what makes you think that? I was scared to death to hear what she had been exposed to. She jumped up on the toilet and said “mom when I was at school (Pre-school) today,Tyler did’nt close the door to go potty, and mom, little boys have little bitty tails! ! ! I was just stunned stupid!!!She really thought she was giving me Breaking News. She then jumped down and said,I gotta go tell daddy! I just stood there,my jaw on the ground. When I finally shut the door I laughed until I cryed.Still to this day..little boys have tails!Children are such a blessing!

that is great! When my children were little (now 15, 12, and 10) we taught them not to be scared of the “boogy man” and monsters under the bed. They had to “GO away in Jesus’ name!!”

When my son was about three he got mad at his older sister and told her to “GO away in Jesus’ name!!”

I wish I had written everything down now.

These are definitely things you need to be writing down. My daughter has had lots of these ah ha or hmmm moments in her short 7 years, but this one is one of my favorites.

We were driving in the car and she was just a few months shy of her 5th birthday and she started asking questions about God because of Sunday. She said “Mom, how is God always with me?” I said “well he sees all that we do and his Holy Spirit dwells in your heart.” She sat for a minute and was quiet and then I heard her talking very quietly. I said “who are you talking to” She said “I’m talking to God because he keeps running around in there” (pointing at her heart) Kids are great!

One more thing from her is her love of the Easter story. Last year for the first time we made the Easter story cookies. If you haven’t done it before you should check it out. It really is a good learning experience for the kids.

Wow! Reminds me (with a shiver down my back and a quickening in my heart) of Jesus’ universally shattering declaration that “the gates of hell would not be able to withstand the onslaught His Church would bring!”
In the words of your child and this child’s heart, “God, GET THE STORM ON!”
Hmmm… may be a God-breathed song in those words of a child with faith…

    Wow. What a story.

A little background on my story:
My mom died when I was a baby, so I never knew her.

One day, when I was running errands with my 3 year old, from the back seat she asked, “Mama? When you go to heaving will you get to meet your Mommy?”

I was tearing up as I answered her, “Yes, honey, I will.”

Then she said,”And do you think we’ll need to bring our toothbrushes to heaven, or will God have those for us?”

My daughter was about 9. She had stepped on a needle and broke it off in her toe. You would think this would be a simple enough surgery to remove it but I had to take her to the hospital. They put her to sleep to do the surgery. I was waiting in a room at the hospital by myself worrying because I was concerned about her being asleep for fear she might not wake up. I began to pray. When she came out of surgery, she said that she “dreamed she went to Heaven” up the stairs to a hole in the sky. When she popped her head through the hole, she told God she needed to give Mom a note to say where she was and goodbye. Then God stopped her and said she had to go back for now. She said she saw the streets of gold and mansions for us. She believed it was a dream. I believe it was God. All this was taking place while I was praying. God is Awesome.
